Virginia Lois Mansfield, 89

    Virginia Lois Mansfield, age 89, of Bybee Loop Road in Waco, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2016, at her daughter’s home, following a sudden illness.
    She was born February 13, 1926 in Madison County and was the daughter of the late Elijah and Opal Patrick Lutes. She was a homemaker and a member of the Waco Baptist Church.
    Mrs. Mansfield was preceded in death by her husband, Narce Mansfield.
    She is survived by one daughter, Judy Taylor (Walker), Madison County; one grandchild, Bradley Taylor; and all her special neighborhood friends.
    Mrs. Mansfield was preceded in death by her son, Bobby Gene Mansfield; her brother, Vaughn Lutes; and her special friend, Tracy Warner.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 6th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Johnny Richardson Cemetery. Friends may call after 11:00 a.m., until service time, Wednesday at funeral home.

Velma D. Blackwell, 97

    Velma D. Blackwell, age 97, of Wallace Circle in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, January 2, 1916, at the Marcum and Wallace Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
    She was born November 30, 1918, in Fitchburg, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Vernon and Mary Ellen Johnson Case. She was a homemaker and a member of the Mt. Carmel Christian Church.
    Mrs. Blackwell was preceded in death by her husband, William Austin Blackwell.
    She is survived by two daughters: Eula Adamson, Xenia, Ohio; and Wilma Sue B. McQueen (Lester), Irvine; one son, Austin C. Blackwell (Fredia), Irvine; one sister, Lodena Tipton, Dayton, Ohio; one brother, Donlie Case, Irvine; nine grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 14 great, great grandchildren.
    Mrs. Blackwell was preceded in death by a daughter, Olema B. Horn Cantrell; three sisters: Mattie Brandenburg, Callie Fielder, and Leona Marcum; and seven brothers: Roscoe, Ova, Garnie, Osa, Audra, Lloyd, and Charles Case.
    Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 5th at the Mt. Carmel Christian Church by Bro. Mark Pearson with burial following in the Cobb Hill Cemetery. Friends called from 6-9 p.m., Monday, January 4th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home and after 11 a.m., Tuesday, at the church.
    Pallbearers were Danny Swinegar, David Blackwell, Trevor Webb, James Austin Blackwell, Corey Anderson and Ron Leedy.

Betty C. Rhodus, 90

    Betty C. Rhodus, age 90, the widow of Chester Rhodus, passed away Wednesday morning, December 30, 2015.
    Mrs. Rhodus was born on September 11, 1925 in Madison County, the daughter of the late Clark and Zelma Marshall Coffey. She was a homemaker, a retired employee of Fort Boonesborough State Park and was a member of The Peytontown Baptist Church.
    Survivors include her daughter, Sue R. Tussey; one grandson, Doug Day (Jamie); two great grandsons: Jantzen Thomas Day and Kordel Lee Day; and her extended family including, a grandson, Larry Gadd (Keeley); a great granddaughter, Kelsey Rae Gadd; and also including Mitzi Shearer and family and Jeri Woodward and family.
    She was also preceded in death by a brother, William Coffey.
    Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 5th at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, 328 W. Main St., Richmond, with Bro. Johnathan Tussey and Mitchell Smith officiating. Burial followed in the Richmond Cemetery.
    The family received friends beginning at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, prior to the service.
    Pallbearers were Dale Emmons, Don Moore, Paul Parsons, Clay Tussey, Larry Gadd and William Hendricks.
    Honorary pallbearers were the administrative staff of Arcadian Cove.
    The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation, for the care, kindness and love, shown from the administration, staff and residents of Arcadian Cove Assisted Living Community, and also to the staff of The Terrace Nursing Facility in Berea and to Dr. John Gillespie and staff.

Dale Stevens, 54

    Dale Stevens, age 54, of St. Timothy Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2015, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital following a sudden illness.
    He was born November 26, 1961 in Estill County and was the son of the late Charles W. Stevens Sr. and Joyce Oveda Puckett Stevens. He was a former construction worker and attended the St. Timothy Episcopal Church. He had lived in Estill County all of his life.
    Mr. Stevens is survived by two daughters: Rebecca Croucher (Garrett), Berea; and Ashley Stevens, Irvine; one son, Brandon Stevens (Heather), Irvine; three sisters: Virginia Stevens, Wilma Stevens and Glenna Stevens, all of Irvine; two brothers: Lander Stevens (Stella) and Darrell Stevens, both of Irvine; and three grandchildren: Braiden Stevens, Brody Stevens and Bryleigh Stevens.
    He was preceded in death by one sister, Carol McKinney; one brother, Charles Stevens Jr.; and a sister-in-law, Della Stevens.
    Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, December 30, 1 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home. Burial was at the Stevens Cemetery. Friends called after 11 a.m., until service time, on Wednesday at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers were Phillip Stevens, Jacob Stevens, Mikie Stevens, Mike Stevens, Larry McGee, Ryan Young, Roy Stevens and Anthony McKinney.

Shelia Darlene Henry, 61

    Shelia Darlene Henry, age 61, of Maupin Hill in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, December 26, 2015, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, following a short illness.
    She was born June 25, 1954 in Richmond, Kentucky, and was the daughter of Douglas Worrell and the late Edith Gordon Worrell. She was a homemaker and had lived in Estill County all of her life.
    Survivors in addition to her father include her husband, Ronnie Lynn Henry; one daughter, Kimberly Dawn Henry, Estill County; one son, Billy Douglas Henry, Estill County; one sister, Joyce Puckett (Larry), Estill County; one brother, Phillip Worrell, (Teresa), Estill County; her mother-in-law, Clara Henry, Estill County; one brother-in-law, Larry Henry, Estill County; and two sisters-in-law: Linda Murphy, Madison County; and Carolyn Sue Beckett, Bath County.
    Funeral services were conducted Monday, December 28, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Rick Powell. Burial was at the West Irvine Cemetery. Friends called after 11 a.m., until service time, Monday at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers were Junior Coffey, David Coffey, Mark Worrell, Leslie Withers, Marvin Cooper, and Raymond Cooper.
    Honorary pallbearers were Jamie Puckett, Larry Puckett III, Bill Hockersmith, Billy Cooper, Harold Worrell, David Worrell and Timothy Worrell.

Allen Crowe Jr., 86

    Allen Crowe Jr., age 86, of West Alexandria, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2015. He was a native of Estill County, born December 14, 1929.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Estine in 2011 and is survived by his children: Wilbert Leon Crowe, Charlene Reynolds, Pamela Abner, Ruby Roberts, and John Crowe. Allen is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, December 30th at the Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory -- North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road in Dayton, Ohio. Interment was in the Sugar Grove Cemetery, West Alexandria. Visitation was Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Charles Franklin Walton Sr.

    Charles Franklin Walton Sr., age 82, of Richmond Road in Paint Lick, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Berea following a long illness.
    He was born January 27, 1933 in Estill County and was the son of the late Luther and Viola Elizabeth Robertson Walton. He was a retired Mobile Tech employee and a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a member of the Christian Church and the Estill County Lions Club. He had lived in Lexington most of his life.
    Mr. Walton was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Eades Walton.
    He is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Walton McKnight (Steve), Paint Lick; one son, Charles Franklin Walton Jr.; Mt. Vernon; two sisters: Georgia Barker, Irvine; and Mary Jane Overbay, Richmond; and one brother, Earl Walton, Richmond.
    He was preceded in death by one brother, James “Jim” Walton.
    Funeral services were conducted Saturday, December 26, 1 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Geral Richardson and Bro. Bobby Hale. Burial was at the Walton Cemetery. Friends called after 11 a.m., until service time, Saturday, at the funeral home.

Michael Lynn "Mike" Barnes, 52

    Michael Lynn "Mike" Barnes, age 52, of Cynthiana, Kentucky, died Monday, December 21, 2015, at his residence.
    He was born in Estill County, Kentucky, March 25, 1963. Mike was an employee of Wal-Mart Tire and Lube in Georgetown, and a farmer.
    Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by his father, Bob R. Barnes; and a niece, Vanessa Jones Fightmaster.
    Survivors include his mother, Jo Nell Watson Barnes; one brother, Jeffrey Barnes; and two sisters: Darlene Jones , (Luther Randall) and Peggy Sue Taylor (Jason); and nieces and nephews: Rebecca Jones, Sarah Barnes, Dylan Taylor, Matthew Taylor and Makayla Taylor.
    Services were conducted 12:00 Noon, Saturday, December 26th at Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home, Cynthiana, with burial in Beards Cemetery in Scott County. Friends called after 10:00 a.m., until service time, Saturday, at the funeral home.
    Active pallbearers were: Ricky Doyle, Steve Prows, Jerry Prows, Kyler Snapp, Sandy Barnes and Patrick Carson.
