Billy Ray Hamilton

    Billy Ray Hamilton, age 83, husband of Johanna Rose Schwing Hamilton for 65 years, died Sunday, February 7, 2016 at the St Joseph Hospice Care Center, Lexington, Kentucky.
    A native of Fox, Kentucky, born April 8, 1932, he was the son of the late Matt Hamilton and Nettie Smith Hamilton. He was a member of the Bedford Acres Christian Church and a retired electrician.
    In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children: Sherrel Israelson (Jim), Kimberly Hamilton, and Carl Hamilton (Peggy); six grandchildren: Brittany Fathergill, Kelly Fathergill, Kerri Gonzalez (Uzias), Adam Israelson, Lisa Whetstine and Ernie Franklin; seven great grandchildren; two brothers, Glen Hamilton and Kenneth Hamilton (Margie) and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday February 10th at Bedford Acres Christian Church, 5414 Lexington Rd., Paris, Kentucky, by Mitchell McIntyre. Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens. Visitation was from 5-8 p.m., Tuesday February 9th at Lusk-McFarland Funeral Home, 1120 Main Street, Paris.
    Pallbearers will be Carl Hamilton, Uzias Gonzalez, Tyler Whetstine, Guy Clark, Eddie Hart and Ernie Franklin.
    Honorary pallbearers will be Haney Johnson, C.C. Lee and Jack Graves.

Ambrose Wood, 93

    Ambrose Wood, age 93, widower of Edna Kirby Wood, passed away Sunday, February 7, 2016, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, Kentucky, after a long illness.
    He was a native of Estill County, born June 22, 1922, a son of the late John D. and Bertha Stevens Wood. He was a former sheriff of Estill County, and a retired mason, working until he was 84 years old. He was a member of the O.D. Henderson Masonic Lodge F&AM #437. He was a member of the Bethel Christian Church.
    Mr. Wood was preceded in death by his brothers: Willis, Willie, Clarence, Lewis , Omean, and Harold Wood; his sisters: Mary Freeman, Alice Woods, Mattie Woods, Dovie Tuttle, and Aileen Harrison; and his step-grandson, Benny Estes Jr.
    Survivors include his son, Darrell "Smokey" Wood (Priscilla); his brothers: Edgar and Alford Woods; and his step-grandchildren Anthony Barnett and Martha Hackworth.
    Services will be held Thursday, February 11th at 1:00 p.m. at Lewis Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the West Irvine Cemetery. Friends may call anytime after 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 10th at the funeral home..

Duane Anthony Covill, 49

    Duane Anthony Covill, age 49, of Thomas Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Friday, February 5, 2016, at his home following a short illness.
    He was born July 13, 1966 in Dayton, Ohio and was the son of Deanna Covill and the late Willie Eugene Wilkey. He was a construction worker and had lived in Estill County for the past seven years.
    Mr. Coville is survived by his mother, Deanna Covill, Dayton, Ohio; three sisters: Denise Collier, Penny Boomershine and Teresa McCowen, all of Ohio; five brothers: Kimloe McTeer, Glenn McTeer, Greg Covill, Matthew Covill, all of Ohio; John McTeer, Estill County; and several nieces and nephews.
    Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Malcom Godsey

    Malcom Godsey, age 84, husband of Cindy Louise Godsey, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Saint Joseph Hospital Mt. Sterling.
    He was born September 11, 1931 in Bulan, Kentucky to the late Malcom Godsey Sr. and the late Emaline Grisby Godsey. He was a United States Army veteran and a retired road mechanic.
    Survivors include his wife, Cindy Godsey, Stanton; daughters: Clara Godsey Graham, Wanda Tester, both of Stanton; Darlene Rose, Mt. Sterling; and Janice Kennon, Winchester; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Malcom and Emaline Godsey, wife, Mary Faye Godsey; a son, Burton Dewayne Godsey; and brothers and sister, Alton Godsey, Alma Wise, and Roy Godsey.
    Services were at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 6th at Davis & Davis Funeral Home, Stanton by Rev. John Owen. Visitation was on Saturday after 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial was in Resthaven Cemetery with military honors.

Betty Jean Lawson

    Betty Jean Lawson, age 70, went on to be with the Lord, Tuesday, February 2, 2016. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side.
    She was a homemaker and a member of the Wings of Love Ministries.
    Ms. Lawson is survived by two sons: Elwood Walters and Ricky Shuler (Rebecca), both of Clay City; three daughters: Lisa Riddell (Phillip) of Irvine, Vicky Bush (husband was the late Matt Bush) and Suzie Hatton (Donald), both of Clay City; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren; four brothers: George “Dooney” Jordan of Irvine, Tommy Jordan of Beattyville, James Jordan (Phylis) of Owingsville, and Pat Jordan (Louise) of Clay City; two sisters: Peggy Powell of Clay City and Mary Kirby (Albert), a host of nieces and nephews and special friends: Rebecca Shuler, Vickie Brinegar and Michelle Catron.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Olga Jordan; a daughter, Elery Cissy Snowden; a brother, Jerry Jordan; sisters: Brenda Jordan and Carolyn Jordan; and a grandson Joseph Bush.
    Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Friday, February 5th at the Grayson Funeral Home Chapel, 201 7th Avenue, Clay City, with Bro. Gene Johns and Josh Johns officiating. Friends visited Thursday, February 4th from 5 till 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial was in the Jordan Cemetery.
    Pallbearers were Jeremy Hatton, Christian Hatton, Alex Shuler, Jordan Shuler, Mason Jordan, Justin Jordan, Jacob Bush, Michael Ratliff and Nathan Jordan.
    Honorary pallbearers were Brandon Riddell, Bradley Riddell, Joshua Snowden and the staff of Hospice East.

William Brian Stone, 34

    William Brian Stone, age 34, of Hargett Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Monday, February 1, 2016, at the University of Kentucky Hospital following a long illness.
    He was born July 9, 1981 in Estill County and was the son of William Stone and Clara Blanton Christensen. He was a member of the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church and had lived in Estill County all of his life.
    Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his grandfather, Wynton Gayle Stone, Estill County; and one brother, Timothy Stone, Estill County.
    Funeral mass was conducted Friday, February 5th, 11 a.m., at the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Ravenna by Father Al Fritsch. Burial was at the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Thursday, February 4th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home (with an 8 p.m. service) and after 10 a.m., Friday at the church.
    Pallbearers were Adam Blanton, Nick Donell, Justin Stevens, Jacob Arnold, Ron Douglas and Eric Banks.

Christine J. Tipton, 86

    Christine J. Tipton, age 86, of Winchester Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2016, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital, following a long illness.
    She was born September 3, 1929 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Dillard and Mamie Rucker Jones. She was a former Square D employee and a member of the Hargett First Church of God. She had lived in Estill County all of her life.
    Mrs. Tipton was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Tipton.
    She is survived by two daughters: Mary Walling (Tommy), Estill County; and Carolyn Coffey (Wayne), Montgomery County; two sons: David Tipton & girlfriend, Jennifer Walters, Estill County; and Scotty Young (Chrystal), Clark County; three sisters: Virginia Ruth Williams, Dorothy Richardson and Ruby Thacker, all of Estill County; nine grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; and special friends: Rosemary Capo and Shannon Fisher.
    She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Ann Tipton; two sisters: Mattie Barnes and Sarah Gross; three brothers: Raymond Jones, Tracy Jones and Junior Toler; and one grandchild, Thomas Lambert.
    Funeral services were conducted Thursday, February 4th at 1 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Forest Turpin and Bro. Larry Frymyer. Burial was at the West Irvine Cemetery. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Wednesday, February 3rd at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers were Steven Sexton, Terry Sexton, Scotty Young, Wayne Coffey, Ricky Williams, Jeremiah Williams, James Tipton and David West.

Mary Ellen Crouch, 84

    Mary Ellen Crouch, age 84, of Stacy Lane in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Friday, January 29, 2016, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
    She was born April 26, 1931 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late George and Susie Neal Abney. She was a retired director of the Estill County Senior Citizens Center and was a member of the Irvine First Church of the Nazarene. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion, the Eastern Star, the White Shrine and was a Kentucky Colonel. She had lived in Estill County all of her life.
    Mrs. Crouch was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Crouch.
     She is survived by her son, Eddie Crouch (Sandra), Irvine; one sister, Eva Jo Young, Indiana; one brother, Donald Abney, Irvine; two grandchildren: Jason Michael Crouch (Tara) and Nicky E. Crouch; and one great grandchild, Paige Kaelee Crouch.
    She was preceded in death by one sister, Ruby Lee Foster.
    Private services were planned for a later date.

Roger Darrell Hall, 76

    Roger Darrell Hall, age 76, of Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly of Irvine, husband of Jo Stamper Hall, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2016 at the Hospice of Cincinnati Center in Blue Ash.
    He was a native of Estill County, born September 14, 1939, a son of the late Leslie and Edith Lee Hall. Mr. Hall was a member of the South Norwood Church of Christ, and he enjoyed working on automobiles.
    He was preceded in death by his son, Jeff Hall; and his sisters: Peggy Hall Bailey and Darlene Hall.
    Survivors, other than his wife Jo, include his daughter, Jill Durst (David); his brother, Jim Hall (Carol); his sisters: Jean Todd (Clinton), Gloria Gabbard (Ronnie), Faye Freeman, Ann McCoy, Brenda Baker (Bob), Linda Blythe (Tom), and Nancy Bailey (Columbus); his grandchildren: Zachary, Rachel, Levi, and Jacob Durst; and several nieces and nephews.
    Services were held Tuesday, February 2nd, at 1:00 p.m. at Lewis Funeral Home with Bob Gross officiating. Burial followed in the Cobb Hill Cemetery. Friends called anytime after 11:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.

    Michael David Stevens, age 46, of Leighton Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2016, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness.
    He was born April 26, 1969 in Estill County and was the son of Lander and Stella Horn Stevens. He was a former construction worker and had lived in Estill County all of his life.
    Survivors, in addition to his father and mother, include his wife, Karen Jean McQueen Stevens; three sons: Michael Kyle Stevens (Samantha), Jacob Daniel Stevens and Phillip Paul Stevens, all of Estill County; one sister, Charlotte Tipton (Todd), Estill County; one brother, Roy Lee Stevens, Estill County; and one grandchild, Ellory Belle Stevens.
    Funeral services were conducted Sunday, January 31st at 2 p.m. at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Alfred Webb. Burial was at the Hoover Cemetery. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Saturday, January 30th at the funeral home.

James “Jim” Donald Adkins Sr.

    James “Jim” Donald Adkins Sr., age 75, of Hartford City, Indiana, passed away at 9:45 p.m., Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana.
    He was born in Irvine, Kentucky, on October 6, 1940 to Donald Adkins and Stanley Sue (McIntosh) Adkins. Both parents precede him in death. Jim served in the United States Army.
    He married Esther M. (Hurst) Adkins on October 6, 1962 in First Church of God in Hartford City.
    Jim retired in 1998 from GM in Marion after 30 years of service. He was a member of UAW Local 966 in Marion and was an avid fisherman.
    He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 53 years Esther Adkins of Hartford City; daughter, Debra S. Green (Linnie) of Portland; son, James D. Adkins Jr. of Portland; four grandchildren: Jordan Adkins, Lindsey Green, Kimberly Trissel and Ava Adkins; two great grandchildren: Jonah Adkins and Jacob Gildner; two brothers: Glenn Beachler (Susan) of Middletown, Ohio; and Leroy Hinton of California; a sister, Brenda Hall of Columbus, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
    He is also preceded in death by his daughters, Sandra Jean Trissel and Barbara J. Adkins; and a brother, Larry Beachler.
    Funeral services were at 4 p.m., Sunday, January 31st at Keplinger Funeral Home, 509 North High Street, Hartford City, Indiana, with Rev. Bobby Thomas officiating. Visitation was from 12 Noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home. Graveside services were private at Hartford City Cemetery, Monday, February 1st.

Alma Jean Watkins Jones

    nes, age 67, of Ravenna, Kentucky, returned to her heavenly home on Monday, January 25, 2016, at Marcum and Wallace Memorial Hospital, after a sudden illness. Her devotion to her family, friends; and her firm belief in God supported her in all the struggles that she ever faced and ultimately gave her peace.
    Mrs. Jones was born December 12, 1948 in Winchester, Kentucky to the late Bill Watkins, a World War II veteran, and the late Geneva Bishop Watkins, a homemaker. She grew up in Estill County and took great pride in this county.
    Alma was blessed and surrounded with a large group of loving family and friends. She married her best friend, Chester Ray Jones, on July 31, 1971 and had a very blessed marriage of 44 years, and together they were blessed with one daughter. Alma was the rock of the family and together they shared a strong faith in God, loved to help others, loved to camp, fish, and hunt. She was always wanting to cut up and have a good time. Mrs. Jones was a retired cosmetologist and a junk dealer.
    She belonged to the South Irvine Christian Church and loved her church very much. She found true comfort in God and his promises, and he carried his promise out and has given her an enternal life with him.
    She is preceded in death by her dad, Bill Watkins, and mom, Geneva Bishop Watkins.
    Mrs. Jones is survived by her husband, Chester Ray Jones of Ravenna; one daughter, Geneva Alma Jones of Ravenna; eight brothers and sisters: Beatrice Estes, John Watkins (Sarah), both of Winchester; Art Watkins (Sue) of Irvine, Billy Watkins of Clay City, Joyce Murphy (Francis) of Winchester, Lenville Watkins (Eva) of Irvine, Linda Grogan of Beattyville, and Marlene Parkins of Winchester; and a host of nieces and nephews and great and great great nieces and nephews and a lot of friends.
    Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 29th at Davis & Davis Funeral Home, Stanton, with Bro. Mike Chism officiating. Burial followed at the Crowe Cemetery. Visitation was Thursday, January 28th, 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers were Chester Jones, John Watkins, Johnny Watkins, Jerry Watkins, Lenville Watkins Jr., Burl Watkins, Jeff Rowland Jr., Francis Murphy, Charlie Hatton and Tommy Boyken.
    The honorary pallbearers were Art Watkins, Lenville Watkins, Jeff Dearing, Isaiah Murphy, Francis Murphy Jr., Billy Watkins Jr., Arthur Thomas Watkins, Gary Boyken, Jeffery, Bill Watkins, and a host of friends and nephews.

    Freddie Lynn Patrick, age 59, of Winchester, Kentucky, formerly of Irvine, passed away Monday, January 25, 2016, at his home.
    He was a native of Estill County, born April 8, 1956, a son of the late Dillard and Opal Abney Patrick. He was a farmer, and a bluegrass musician. He played guitar, mandolin, and was a vocalist in Southern Harvest, and Kentucky Harvest Band.
    Mr. Patrick was preceded in death by a brother, William Ralph Patrick; and his sister, Marie Warmouth.
    Survivors include his daughter, Tiffany Patrick; his brothers: Willard, James, Arnold, Greg and Larry Patrick; and his sisters: Vivian Flynn and Brenda Patrick.
    The family is planning a memorial service at a later time.

Woodrow Clem Jr.

    Woodrow Clem Jr., age 69, of Ohatchee, Alabama, passed on Friday, January 22, 2016 at the Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center in Anniston.
    He was a native of Estill County, born August 14, 1946, the son of Mary Tipton Clem and the late Woodrow Clem Sr. He was a proud graduate of the Estill County High School Class of 1964.
    Mr. Clem is survived by his wife, Norma Jean Clem; his mother, Mary Tipton Clem; a sister, Blanche Clem Taylor; three stepchildren: Bobby Hester, Sherry Warnock, and Bruce Hester (Joy); step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; seven aunts; five brothers-in-law; and four sisters-in-law.
    He is preceded in death by his father, Woodrow Clem Sr.
    Funeral services were held Sunday, January 24th at 2 p.m. at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Ohatchee with Bro. Doug Matthews and Bro. Bob Pope officiating with burial following at Mt. Olive Church Cemetery. Visitation was held Sunday, January 24th, one hour before service, at the church.
    Pallbearers were Pat Lindsey, Chris Hester, Bobby Hester, Bruce Hester, Kenny Brown, and Larry Lindsey.
    Family requests a sincere thanks to all the doctors and staff at RMC-Anniston and all his friends and family.
