Travis Lee Gordon

    Travis Lee Gordon, age 77, widower of Bobbie Ruth Isaacs Gordon, passed away Friday, May 13, 2016, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, after a short illness.
    He was a native of Estill County, born January 21, 1939, a son of the late James Herman Gordon and the late Mamie Centers Gordon. He was a retired employee of Bundy Tubing where he served as vice-president of the UAW. He was a member of the Ravenna Church of God, a member of F&AM Stafford Lodge, and a former Irvine City Councilman. Mr. Gordon was a musician, playing the mandolin. He had a radio show on WIRV for twenty years. He enjoyed bird watching, travelling, and growing tomatoes.
    He was preceded in death by a sister, Doretta Barnes.
    Survivors include his daughters: Phyllis York (Tom), Lisa Byerly (Kevin), and Teresa Whitehouse (Jeff); his brothers: Willie Hargus Gordon and Doug Gordon; his sisters: Dessie Isaacs, Barbara Dennis, and Carol Culp; his grandchildren: Felicia Flanagan, Samantha Maritch, James Martin York, Christian Snodgrass, Heather Snodgrass, Heather Byerly, Jesse Byerly, Ashley Whitehouse, Megan Whitehouse; seven great grandhchildren; and a host of friends.
    Services were held Monday, May 16th at 11:00 a.m. at Lewis Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Marcum Cemetery. Friends called anytime after 6:00 p.m., Sunday, May 15th at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers were Tom York, Kevin Byerly, Jeff Whitehouse, Matt Flanagan, Dave Maritch, and Christian Snodgrass.

Arthur Warmouth

    Arthur Warmouth, age 77, passed away May 13, 2016. He was born to the late Sidney and Ruby Warmouth on December 25, 1938 in Kentucky.
    Arthur was a veteran in the United States Army Reserve and was a member of Local 1410 Laborer Union for over 50 years. He was married to the love of his life, Marie Warmouth for 47 years.
    He leaves behind his two daughters: Tresa Clark (Clay) and Karla Bowman; five grandchildren: Jennifer, Kourtney, Angie, Sidney, and Michelle; and great granddaughter, Kaylie.
    Visitation was held at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, Ohio, on Tuesday, May 17th from 5-8 p.m. with a funeral service following at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 18th at 10 a.m. Burial was at Byron Cemetery.

    Lesetta Harrison Powell, age 92, of Grafton, Ohio, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2016 at Burbank Parke Care Center in Burbank, Ohio
    She was born on April 27, 1923, in Irvine, Kentucky, the daughter of Vernon and Rebecca Rawlings Harrison, and had been a resident of Grafton since 1941. She worked as an inspector for Champion International for 19 years, retiring in 1955. She was a member of Christian Unity Church in North Eaton. Lesetta enjoyed making crafts, walking, bowling and gospel singing.
    Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Lee Healy (Thomas) of Grafton; her son, William Powell (Mary Jane) of Lodi; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one great, great grandchild; and a sister, Ruby Hunt.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Buford; sons, Thomas and Jerry Powell; five sisters and seven brothers; and her parents, Vernon and Rebecca Harrison.
    Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 16th at the Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville, Ohio, where family received friends on Friday, April 15th from 5-8 p.m. Rev. Neal Brock officiated. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park, North Olmsted.

    Vernetta Jane Abner Farthing, 83 years young, died Wednesday, May 11, 2016.
    She was born October 1, 1932 in Estill County but spent the last seven years of her life in Catawba County, North Carolina.
    The following preceded her in death: her mother, Ethel Mae Powell Abner Robinson; her father, Aaron Abner Sr.; her husband of 49 years, Fred D Farthing; her brother, Aaron Abner Jr.; her daughter, Rhonda; her son, Teddy; three grandchildren: Sammy, Keith, and Bubby; and one great-grandson, Cody.
    She was survived by: two sisters: Mable Willis and Betty Reed; one sister-in-law, Irma Jean Abner; one aunt, Iva Jean Powell; five children: Carolyn & James Rhoton of Claremont, North Carolina; Judy Spicer of Frenchburg; Freddie Farthing of Booneville, Bobby & Jackie Farthing of Claremont, North Carolina; and Anita & Eddie “Bo” Wallace of Richmond; 18 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, six great, great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and sisters- and brothers-in-the-lord.
    Viewing was held Saturday, May 14th, 6-9 p.m., at Lewis Funeral Home. Funeral was Sunday, May 15th at 1 p.m., led by Rev. Jerry Rose, at the funeral home with burial following at Oakdale Cemetery.

    Jerry L. Blythe, age 57, husband of Wanda Miller Blythe, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Clark Regional Medical Center, Winchester.
    He was born December 10, 1958 in Estill County to the late Jim Blythe and Mary Betty "Tiny" Jones.
    Survivors include his wife, Wanda Blythe, Stanton; his mother, Betty "Tiny" Jones, Stanton; two sons, David Ritchie (Sandy), Hillsboro and Kevin Ritchie (Sarah), Lexington; a daughter, Kathie Ritchie Allen (Kenneth), Independence; two brothers: Jimmy McIntosh (Bonnie), Stanton, and Gerald Irving (Wanda); three sisters, Judy Martin (James), Richmond; Janice Bates, Winchester; and Jennifer Bolin (Sammy), Bowen; a half brother, Thomas Jones, Mt. Sterling; a half sister, Patricia Maze, Stanton; grandchildren: Carter Ritchie, Isaac Ritchie, and Sofia Allen; an uncle, Bill Blythe; two aunts, Eva Richardson (Vernon), Hamilton, Ohio; and Alma Caldwell, Jeffersonville; and special nieces: Mary Maze, Mel Mays, and Caroline Jones.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Jim Blythe.
    Services were held Saturday, May 14th at 1:00 p.m. at Davis & Davis Funeral Home in Stanton, by Rev. Kenny Wasson. Visitation was Friday, May 13th, 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.     Roger Dale Goosey, age 59, of Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at the Stanton Nursing Center after a long illness.
    Born May 18, 1956 in Madison County, he was preceded in death by his parents, Rosebert and Edith Powell Goosey; and a sister, Judy Henry.
    He is survived by his son, Matthew Goosey (Brittany); a daughter, Leslie Carol Goosey; a brother, Paul Goosey (Marilyn); a sister, Virginia Rose (Joseph); two grandsons: Clarence Walker and James Goosey; nephews: Anthony Rose (Laneve), Barry Rose, Bobby Willis (Charolette); nieces: Loretta Watson (Junior), Olivia Knuckles (Jeff), Sara Goosey (Pavel), and Jennifer Durbin (Dwight); and many great nieces and nephews who loved him very much.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 12th at the Lewis Funeral home with Brother Jason Brooks officiating. Burial followed at the Kindred Cemetery. Friends called from noon until service time on Thursday at the funeral home.

    Lemon Estes Jr. “JR”, age 67, of Winchester, Kentucky, husband for 44 years to Wilma Jean Spicer Estes, passed away after battling cancer on Monday, May 9, 2016, at their home.
    He was born in Irvine, Kentucky, January 19, 1949, to the late Lemon and Callie Horn Estes. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and he retired after 16 years from Clark County Implement Company (John Deere).
    In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, RéJeana Craft (Bobby) of Cynthiana, a son, Joseph Estes (Misty) of Winchester, a daughter, Callie Jo Smith (Doug) of Winchester; five grandchildren: Hunter Smith, Jake Smith, Hali Ward and Hunter Miller of Winchester; and Josh Estes of Mt. Sterling; brothers, Bobby Estes and Paul Estes, both of Winchester; sisters: Anna Walters, Lula Sewell, Carrie Sewell (Donald), and Emma Dennis (Douglas) all of Irvine; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Walters; and a brother, Charles Estes.
    Funeral services were Friday, May 13th at 11a.m. at the Providence Pentecostal Church, 7076 Old Boonesboro Rd, by Bro. Joey McClease. Visitation was Thursday, May 12, from 5p-8p at the church. Burial was in the Boonesboro Cemetery.
    Pallbearers were Jim Parks, Terry Sparks, Larry Smith, Robbie Zornes, Jim Blevins and Bill Barker.

    Patrick Joseph Reynolds, age 61, of Broadway in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2016, at his home following a long illness.
    He was born May 21, 1954 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, and was the son of the late Charles K. and Clara Farrell Reynolds. He was a retired Sergeant with the United States Army and a former employee of the Bluegrass Station Army Depot. He was a member of the American Legion.
    Mr. Reynolds is survived by his wife, Melissa Kay Hobbs Reynolds; three sisters: Mary Ruth, Etta and Barbie; and two brothers: Buddy and Mike.
    He was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia; and three brothers: Tom, Charlie and Fred.

Ima Jean Estepp Burton

    Ima Jean Estepp Burton, age 85, of Winchester, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at her home. She was the widow of James Burton.
    A native of Owsley County, she was born on June 27, 1930 to the late Hays and Louetta Couch Estepp. She was a retired dietician from VA Medical Center and a local farmer.
    In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.
    Survivors include a sister, Bertha Estepp Bowman of Missouri; children, Luellis Patrick (Randy), Myra Lynn Branham (Tommy), both of Estill County, Michael Burton (Tina) of Clark County and Mitchell Burton (Charlotte) of Fayette County; 17 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
    Services were at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 13th at Scobee Funeral Home, 219 West Lexington Avenue, Winchester, by Pastor Joey Murphey. Burial was in the Burton Family Cemetery, Estill County. Visitation was Thursday, May 12th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

    Josephine Wasson, age 77, of the Irvine Nursing and Rehab Center, passed away Saturday, May 7th, at the Center following a long illness.
    She was born November 22, 1938, in Powell County, a daughter of the late Algin and Alice Wright Wasson. She was a homemaker and had lived in Estill County all of her life. She was a member of the Mt. Carmel Christian Church.
    Ms. Wasson is survived by three brothers: John Wasson, Waco; Oscar Wasson, Richmond; and Junior Wasson, Berea; one sister, Mary Shuler, Irvine; and several nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by five siblings: Clay Wasson, Bert Wasson, Aliene Wasson, Beulah Wasson, and Maye Adams.
    Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, May 10th at 1:00 p.m. at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Mark Pearson and Bro. Terry Barnes with burial following in the Crowe Cemetery. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Monday, May 9th at the funeral home.

    Billy Ray Wallace, age 66, of Owingsville, Kentucky, passed away Friday, May 6, 2016, at the St. Clair Hospital in Morehead following a short illness.
    He was born December 30, 1949, in Estill County, a son of Clarence Wallace and the late Bernice Patrick Farris. He was a saw mill worker and had lived in Estill County most of his life.
    In addition to his father, he is also survived by his stepmother, Emma Wallace Estill County; three sons: Billy Joe Wallace, Estill County; Dwight Wallace and Clint Allen Wallace, both of Michigan; three sisters: Mary Ann Spencer, Michigan; Patty Alfrey, Lexington; and Sara Knoll, Estill County; three brothers: Randall Wallace, Estill County; Roger Wallace, Berea; and Clarence Wallace Jr., Shepherdsville; and three grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by two siblings, Pauline Ratliff, and Gerald Wallace.
    Graveside services were conducted Monday, May 9th at 1 p.m., at the Wallace Family Cemetery.

Martha Christine Parsons Abel

    Martha Christine Parsons Abel, 65, widow of Vance Abel, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at her home.
    She was a native of Lenoir, North Carolina, born September 10, 1950, a daughter of Clarence and Gracie Odom Parsons. She was a homemaker who enjoyed drawing, collecting antique toys, music, and playing the piano. She attended various congregations, but was a member of the Lord's Church.
    Survivors include her sons: Eugene Abel, Jonathan Abel, and Philip Abel (Alicia); her brothers: James, Clarence Ed, Thomas, Glen and Wayne Parsons; her sisters: Joyce Calloway and Clarice Nelson; her grandchildren: Kaytlyn, John, Zoey, and Madison Abel; and very special friends: Veronica Croucher, Layden, and Layla.
    There was a memorial service at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 7th at Lewis Funeral Home. Bro. Linville Dunaway will officiate. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until service time.

    Mark Thomas “Tom” Arthur, age 51, of Richmond, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at his home.
    Tom was born on June 11, 1964 in Richmond, the son of the late Ray and Luceille Dixon Arthur. He was a former police officer with the Richmond Police Department. Tom had a gentle spirit, and was always willing to help others.
    Survivors include one son, Joshua Arthur (Brittany); two stepdaughters: Jessica Pinkston (Ryan) and Brittany Tackett (Bill); three brothers: Wallace Arthur (Becky), Bill Arthur and Jeff Arthur (Leanne); and four grandchildren: Jon David Arthur, Madelyn Pinkston, Eli Lay-Tackett and Emma Tackett.
    Services were at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 6th at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, 328 West Main Street, Richmond, with Pastor Joshua Arthur officiating. Burial followed in the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Irvine. Visitation began at 12:00 Noon on Friday at the funeral home.

    Lillian Powell Woosley, age 90, widow of Tracy Wallace Woosley, passed away Monday, May 2, 2016, at the Irvine Nursing and Rehab center.
    She was a native of Estill County, a daughter of the late Banford and Greenie Trimble Powell. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God.
    Mrs. Woosley was preceded in death by her husband, Tracy Wallace Woosley; her son, Graydon Woosley; her sisters: Freda Powell and Irene Woosley; and her grandson-in-law, Doug Presley.

    Lonnie Wallace Marcum, age 75, Winchester, Kentucky, husband of Delfia Regina Crowe Marcum, passed away at home, Sunday, May 1, 2016, surrounded by his family and friends.
    He was born July 14, 1940 to the late Lonnie Nelson and Ella Katherine Rogers Marcum.
    Survivors include his wife of 50 years and 10 months, Delfia R. Marcum; sons, WIlliam Nelson Marcum and Tommy Marcum (Bess); daughter, Kathy Marcum Clem (Johnny West); grandchildren, Tommy Marcum Jr. (Patricia), Dennis Ray Clem Jr. (Kelby), Ryan Wallace Clem, Mary Regina Ferguson (Norman), Samantha Denise Barnett (Brett), Delfia Kay Marcum, Christy Lynn Marcum, and Sarah Marie Marcum; six great grandchildren; brothers, Orval Marcum (Carolyn) and Dewey Marcum; and sisters, Joyce Townsend, Carol Ciferri, Velma Dean Powell (Gayle), and Lydia Patrick (Ted).

    Ronald Lee Collins Sr., age 67, husband of Ruth Brown Collins, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2016, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, Kentucky.
    He was a native of Winamac, Indiana, born June 7, 1948, a son of the late Rokie Collins and Ilene Risner Collins. He was a United States Army veteran and retired construction worker; he enjoyed gardening, hot rods, his family, Bible study, animals, and spending time with his family.
    Mr. Collins was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Bobbie Lee Jones.
    Survivors, other than his wife Ruth, include his son, Ron Collins Jr.; his daughter, Patricia Miller (Jim); his brother, Melvin Collins; his sisters: Donald McGuinn, Barbara Russell, Dorene Hall, Rita Brown, and Charlene Napier; his grandchildren: Ronald Lee Collins III, and Jonathon David Collins; and a host of friends; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

James Lloyd Wiseman, 90

James Lloyd Wiseman

    James Lloyd Wiseman, of Winchester, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday the 27th of April 2016 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington. He was 90 years of age. He was a veteran of the 2nd World War, a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner.
    Born in Estill County, 9 July 1925, he was the son of John David Wiseman and Edie Franklin Finney Wiseman.
    He is preceded in death by two brothers, Henry M. Wiseman and Carl D. Wiseman; and a sister, Evelyn Wiseman Clem.
    Mr. Wiseman is survived by his wife of 68 years, Gloria Spicer Wiseman; four children: Bonny Wiseman Barker (Kenneth), James M. Wiseman, Mary Wiseman Brashear (Lynn), and William Wiseman; seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
    During World War II, Mr. Wiseman served in the Navy and participated in one of the famous Murmansk runs. In his later years he and other participants received a medal and letter of commendation from Boris Yeltsin of the Soviet Union for their service.
    He had a career with the United States Public Health Service working at the hospital known as NARCO on Leestown Road in Lexington, and then had another career with the CSX Railroad as a brakeman.
    He was a great Cincinnati Reds fan, an avid railroad buff, liked fishing, and enjoyed telling yarns and entertaining the grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved Cajun music, Willie and Waylon, and Johnny Cash. Obviously he had impeccable musical tastes.
    James and Gloria, upon celebrating their long marriage a couple years ago, overheard one of the younger great grandchildren exclaiming "Sixty-six years? WOW! They must really love each other." And how true it was...
    Visitation was at Scobee Funeral Home, Sunday afternoon, May 1st, 3:30-7:00 p.m. with funeral services Monday at 1:00 P.M. at Scobee's and burial in the Winchester Cemetery.

4-H Camp will be held June 6-10 at Camp Feltner in London

    Do you have a child between the ages of 9-15 (must turn 9 before the first day of camp or be entering 4th grade in the fall). Campers do not have to be enrolled in a 4-H Club to attend summer camp....now that I have your attention, Here's the details
    June 6-10th
    Camp Feltner in London, KY
    Cost $110.00 (includes a $25.00 non-refundable application fee)
    Limited scholarships available (must apply by May 13th to be considered for a scholarship)
    Space is limited so first come first served!!
    If you are interested in going to camp, please call 723-4557 or drop by the extension office to pick up a camp application!!
