Tipton found herself alone in front of the goal with 3:42 to go in the half and kicked in Estill's second shot to lead 2-0. Later Breathitt got another free kick which was protested by Estill's fans. It didn't score either. However, Megan Scott managed to put in Estill's third goal with 10:38 remaining in the second to go up 3-0 and hold on for the win. Tipton and Scott each had one assist. The Lady Engineers will play Letcher County Central (10-8) in the regionals. The winner will likely play Perry County Central (16-5) who takes on Breathitt County in the semi-finals. Estill improved to 13-5 while Breathitt drops to 9-10. The Lady Engineers have to beat both Letcher County Central and Perry County Central to win a second straight regional. Earlier in the season Estill beat Perry 2-1 and lost to Letcher 1-0. Regionals will be played at Perry County Central in Hazard with semi-finals on Tuesday, October 18th. Bridge deck restoration project at westbound KY 613 overpass

This visit was directed at students who were interested in the Health Sciences and/or other Science fields. The students had a wonderful time and are now patiently awaiting their acceptance letters! Thank you GEAR UP for this wonderful opportunity!

Estill High School students, as well as Ms. Rader, rub Daniel Boone’s toe for good luck . . . an EKU tradition.

After visiting the entomology department, Loren Quinn Barnes was excited to be holding a Madagascar Hissing cockroach.

Road Block for Will Wise Toy Drive

Classmates and friends will be having a road block on Saturday, October 15, for the Will Wise Toy Drive. Each year the toy drive provides toys to sick children who are patients at Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital in Irvine, Kentucky, during the Christmas season. Thank you in advance for all who donate and once again fill up Will's truck and bring a smile to a sick child.

Fundraiser for 2nd Time Cancer Victim

This is Christie Young, I work in the PVA office in the courthouse and we are doing a fundraiser for Robbie and Sondra Riddell. Robbie worked here in the courthouse as custodian for awhile and he is fighting cancer for the second time. He has been in Hospice for 4 weeks now and they had told the family when he went in he may last 4 weeks. He is a fighter and he is still going. He has faith that is unbelievable! He is an inspiration to everyone he meets. If you don’t know him, I wish you could. We are selling t-shirts and sweatshirts for them, and all of the proceeds go to them. We are putting up flyers everywhere we can, but we would love to be able to get it countywide, so we were wondering what the cost would be to put this in the paper? I have attached the flyer and a picture of them, so you can see who I am talking about. His wife Sondra is Jerry Chaney’s daughter. They are wonderful people that are battling a horrible disease. Please let me know.
            Thank you, Christie.
NOTE: Sadly, Mr. Riddell passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2016. Although, he is passed, you still may order shirts in his honor and to benefit his family.

Beckler Named to Horizon Fellows at Berea College

Logan Beckler was recently nominated and selected as one of the Horizon Fellows at Berea College. The Horizon Fellows Program, a nomination program and workshop series sponsored by the Office of Admissions in collaboration with Partners for Education is designed to identify students at the end of their sophomore year who have the intellectual capabilities and the drive to excel in higher education studies. It is these students, on the horizon of their college search, who could benefit from the assistance offered as part of the program so that they can produce quality college applications in their senior year. He was inducted into the program on September 24th. He is pictured here with Ms. Lauren Rader, who nominated him for the program.

Hospital plans Ladies Night for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Marcum & Wallace Hospital will sponsor a Ladies Night Out for Breast Cancer Awareness on Tuesday, October 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the Estill County High School cafeteria.
This free event will feature a presentation by Kentucky Cancer Link Executive Director Vicki Blevins-Booth and Marcum & Wallace Hospital Radiology Director Sharon Whitaker.
All ladies who attend will receive a free dinner, health education, and giveaways.
While breast cancer affects people throughout the year, October has been marked as breast cancer awareness month. It’s used as a reminder to make sure women are keeping up with preventative and early detection measures.
“The key to breast cancer detection is early detection,” said Sharon Whitaker, Marcum & Wallace Hospital Director of Radiology. “It is so important for women to get annual mammograms and be proactive about their health.”
Please sign up for the free event by Friday, October 21 by calling 606-726-2106 (option 2).
