    Gary Joe Embs, age 83, of Reily Township, Ohio, passed away at his residence on Saturday, June 5, 2021.
    He was born in Irvine, Kentucky on November 21, 1937, the son of Delbert and Lenna Allen Embs. On August 11, 1964 in Liberty, Indiana, he married Linda Sue Howard. Gary was employed in the housing and dining department at Miami University for more than forty years, retiring in 2013. He was a member of Kerusso Baptist Church in Hamilton.
    Gary is survived by his wife, Linda Sue Embs; one son, Phillip Embs (Michelle); three siblings, Betty Sue Winkle, Doyle Embs (Diane), and Patty Tudor (Bob); two grandchildren, Ashley Canada (Thomas) and Travis Joe Embs; three great grandchildren, Emma, Lacie, and Danny; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
    He was preceded in death his parents; four siblings, Margie, Larry, Delbert Jr., and Donnie; and a special brother-in-law, Densil Howard.
    The funeral service will be held at Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, Hamilton, Ohio, on Friday, June 11, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Kris Theobald of Kerusso Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Springdale Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 12:00 Noon to service time at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

    Marion Hall, age 77, of Blue Run Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, June 5, 2021, at the Baptist Health in Lexington following a long illness.
    He was born January 29, 1944 in Powell County and was the son of the late Dell and Abbie Ann McCoy Hall. He served in the United States Army and was retired from Okonite. He had lived in Estill County most of his life.
    Mr. Hall is survived by his wife, Bonnie Joyce Barnett Hall; three sons: Jeffrey Dell Hall (Suzi Freeman), Darren Ray Hall, both of Irvine; and Bryan Keith Hall (Stacy), Danville; one sister, Janice Newcomb, Powell County; two brothers: Raymond Hall and Danny Hall, both of Powell County; eight grandchildren: Sondra Watson, April Tegtmeier, Logan Hall, Kaitlyn Robinson, Trenton Hall, Alesia Webb, Sarah Freeman and Andrew Chaney; five great grandchildren: Lane Watson, Karson Tegtmeier, Johnathan Robinson, Peyton Robinson and Sawyer Webb; and several nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Durham; and two brothers, Tom and Donald Hall.
    Visitation for the public was held Wednesday, June 9, 2021, from 6 to 9 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home. Private funeral services were conducted by Bro. Joe Hall with burial at the Cobb Hill Cemetery.
    Pallbearers were Logan Hall, Trenton Hall, Greg Hall, Steve Barnett, Andrew Chaney, Kevin Tegtmeier, and Justin Watson.

Eva Eliza Durbin Rice

    A memorial to celebrate the life of Eva Eliza Durbin Rice will be held on Monday, June 14, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Paris Cemetery Chapel, 1603 Main Street in Paris, Kentucky.
    She died peacefully on July 27, 2020, in Lexington, Kentucky, at the age of 90.
    Eva is survived by her children, Robert Rice, Mary Beth Whitehouse, and Sharon Taylor; a son-in-law, Mark Whitehouse; a grandson, Warren Taylor; two siblings, Herman Scott Durbin and Wanda Wilson; and a large extended family.
    She was born on June 14, 1930, in Irvine, Kentucky, to Herman and Birdie Howell Durbin. Eva attended and graduated from nursing school, and worked as a nurse at Gillium, Blackburn and Ray Urology until her retirement. She married Maurice Rice.
    Mrs. Rice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sister, Myra Embry.
    In her spare time, Eva enjoyed gardening, spending time with her family, attending Central Christian Church, and cheering for the Kentucky Wildcats.
    In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in her name to either the Alzheimer's Association, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Bluegrass.

Donnie C. Embs

    Donnie C. Embs, age 89, of Tuttle Road, in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, after an extensive battle with cancer.
    He was born December 17, 1931, in Estill County, a son of the late Delbert N. and Lenna Allen Embs. He spent most of his life in Estill and Clark Counties, except for a few years in Oxford, Ohio.
    Although Donnie operated a country store in Clark County named Winetown Grocery for 20 years and worked several years at Bundy Tubing, his real love was farming and real estate. He successfully bought and sold many farms and houses in Clark and Estill Counties. He was a kind and generous man, always willing to help out when needed.
    He is survived by four sons: Dwayne Embs, Randall Embs, Gregory Embs, and Michael Embs; four siblings: Doyle Embs (Diane), Lexington; Gary Joe Embs (Linda), Oxford, Ohio; Patricia Tudor (Robert), Lexington; and Betty Winkle, Irvine; eight grandchildren: Jennifer Simpkins; Shawn, Ryan, and Cory Embs; Ashley Christi, Alecia Maines; Jonathan and Macie Embs; ten great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
    In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a great grandson, Dustin Simpkins, who died of cancer in 2012; a sister, Marjorie Pennock; and two brothers, Delbert Embs Jr. and Larry Jack Embs.
    Visitation for the public was from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at the Warren F. Toler Funeral home. Private funeral services were conducted by Bro. Marvin Neal with burial at the Oakdale Cemetery.

    Robert Riddell, age 70, of Hoys Fork in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Monday, May 31, 2021, at the Irvine Nursing & Rehabilitation Center following a long illness.
    He was born July 5, 1950 in Estill County and was the son of the late Virgil and Pauline Turner Riddell. He worked as an auto mechanic at the Tom Boian Garage. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed listening to WLJC. He had lived in Estill County all his life.
    Mr. Riddell is survived by six daughters: Melissa Hopkins (James), Paula McCane (Victor), both of Irvine; Robin Hall (Brian), Richmond; Denae Alloway (Aaron), Lexington; Nicole Calmes, Richmond; and Vanessa Townsend (Johnny), Stanton; two sisters: Ruth Farthing and Lorena Willis (Junior), both of Irvine; two brothers: Joe Riddell and Richard Riddell, both of Irvine; 15 grandchildren: James Hopkins, Davena Graves, Kevin Hoover, Shelby Hoover, Dawson Hall, Duncan Hall, Jaelyn Hall, Caleb Moore, Jordan Alloway, Emilee Calmes, Colton Collins, Braiden Townsend, Bailee Townsend, Braxton Townsend and Brynlee Townsend; two great grandchildren: Sawyer Molton and Aella Hoover; and special friends: Ruby Cain and Denisha Marcum.
    He was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Willis; and two brothers, Cecil and Marion Riddell.

    Betty Ann Dunigan, age 83, of Cherry Road Court in Berea, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, May 30, 2021, at the Baptist Health in Lexington following a long illness.
    She was born August 26, 1937 in Lee County and was the daughter of the late Daniel and Dorothy Johnson Terry. She was a home healthcare provider and a member of the Sandfield Pentecostal Church. She had lived in Jackson County most of her life.
    Mrs. Dunigan was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Dunigan; and is survived by her sister, Josephine King, Wilmington, Ohio; and three nieces: Kathy Cole, Karen Bailey and Debbie Morgan.
    She was preceded in death by one sister, Lillian Campbell; and three brothers, Charles, James Earl and Merdia Ray Terry.
    Visitation for the public was held Thursday, June 3, 2021, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home. Private funeral services were conducted by Bro. Kevin Phillips with burial at the Cobb Hill Cemetery.

    Parriett Josephine Mitchell, age 80, of Irvine, Kentucky, passed away at her residence Sunday, May 30, 2021.
    She was born in Irvine, May 24, 1941 to Milford and Minnie Robertson. She was a retired maid.
    Mrs. Mitchell is survived by a daughter, Angela Richardson (Charles) of Irvine; one grandson, two great grandchildren; and two sisters: Thelma Martin of Florida and Connie Robertson of Irvine.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, Milford and Minnie Robertson; her husband, Joe Mitchell; a daughter, Vicky Mitchell; five brothers: Herbert, Howard, Dewey, Steve and Billy Robertson; and five sisters: Nancy Robertson, Mary Cordene, Ima Creech, Coffa Winkler and Betty Chaney.

    He was born March 10, 1961, the son of the late Elmo and Lucille Combs Townsend. He was a salesman with Clay Ingles and had lived in Estill County all his life.
    Mr. Townsend is survived by a son, Blake Townsend (Natasha), Estill County; four sisters: Brenda Woolery (Mason), Mary Hardy (Kiser), Wilma Willis, all of Estill County; and Debbie Conner (Ronnie), London, Kentucky; two brothers: Carlos Townsend (Mildred), Estill County; and Charles Townsend (Charlene), Montgomery County; his companion, Deanna Taylor; and several nieces and nephews.
    Private funeral services were conducted by Bro. Darrell Allen with burial at the Townsend Family Cemetery.

Julia Lynn “Peachy” Stamper Tipton

    Julia Lynn “Peachy” Stamper Tipton, the wife of Tracy Arthur Tipton for 43 years and the daughter of the late Aaron and Ethel Katherine Estes Stamper, was born in Irvine, Kentucky on May 4, 1962 and departed this life in Louisville, Kentucky on May 14, 2021 at the age of 59 years and 10 days. She was a homemaker and a member of the Faith Baptist Church.
    In addition to her husband, Peachy leaves behind her five children, Andrew Tipton, Jenny Tipton, Anita Holliman (Mike Jr.), Archie Tipton, and Amanda Sizemore (Matt); six grandchildren, Nathan, Shelby, Kimberly, Joshua, Noah, and Lydia; three brothers, Willard, Aaron Michael, and Tommy Stamper; three sisters, Katie Caudill, Jeanette Ross, and Connie Smallwood; and a host of other relatives and friends.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Mary Tipton, Janice Miller, and Jacklyn Stamper; and three brothers, Travis, Willie Levi, and Curtis Stamper.

    She was born in Madison County to the late Marion and Dorothy McQueen Gadd. She was self-employed and a member of the Liberty Avenue Baptist Church.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, H.C. Lainhart; two brothers, Burt Gadd and Marion Edward “Toe” Gadd; one sister, Patricia Robbins; and one grandson.
    She is survived by her children, Carl Gadd, Lisa McCormick, Jo Ann Alcorn, Nancy Jones, Wilma Lainhart, and Michael Lainhart (Edith); six siblings, Kenny Gadd, Robert Gadd (Belinda), Donna Gadd, Freda Thomas (Ed), Brenda Reed (Jimmy), and Lorene Thomas (Lowell); several grandchildren and great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at Lakes Funeral Home, 203 North Dogwood Drive, Berea, with Allene Foster officiating. Entombment will follow in the Madison County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Charles Ray Chrisman

    Charles Ray Chrisman, widower of Barbara Fox Chrisman and the son of the late Robert and Lottie Shelton Chrisman, was born in Lee County, Kentucky on October 31, 1934 and departed this life in Irvine, Kentucky on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at the age of 86 years, 6 months and 25 days. He was of the Christian faith and a former self-employed brick mason.
    Charles is survived by two daughters: Sheila McIntosh (Nathan) of Beattyville, and Leasa Conrad (Gary) of Irvine; one granddaughter, Jolene Fox (Ricky); one great granddaughter, Autumn Fox; one sister, Betty Spencer; all of Beattyville; and a host of other relatives and friends.
    In addition to his wife and parents, Charles was preceded in death by his only grandson, Tommie Conrad.
    Visitation will be held Sunday, May 30, 2021, 12:00 Noon until 2:00 p.m. at Newnam Funeral Home Chapel, 108 Center Street in Beattyville. The funeral service officiated by Bro. Roy S.     Charlene Gumm Rogers, age 65, of Berea, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at Baptist Health in Lexington. She was a former employee of Trane in Lexington and a member of the Methodist faith.
    She was born Saturday, May 12, 1956, in Estill County to the late J.B. and Lucile Hines Gumm and enjoyed 43 years of marriage to James Rogers of Estill County.
    Charlene is also survived by her brother: Robert Gumm of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three sisters: Linda Sparks (Phillip) of Irvine, Darlene Berryman (Bill) and Phyllis Tipton, both of Winchester; and several nieces and nephews.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Michael Hines.
    Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Lakes Funeral Home, 203 North Dogwood Drive, Berea, with Pastor Dwight Northern officiating.     Survivors include three daughters, Sheila Rogers, Betty Rogers Tipton (Bill), and Brenda Rogers Clair (Daniel), all of Stanton; one son, Simon Rogers (Tonya Miller), Estill County; one brother, Cebert Townsend (Katrina), Patsy; five sisters: Irene Campbell, Peru, Indiana; Reola Bryant (Rick), Logansport, Indiana; Lily Pickens (Mike), Lucrene, Indiana; Barbara McCoy (Ray), Stanton; and Gracie Lane, Pine Ridge; eight grandchildren, Brittany Elam, Dakota Tipton, Daniel Ray Clair (Linda), Mitchell Clair (Brenda), Tommy Clair (Regina), Brandon Clair, Marcus Paul Rogers (Zoey), and Dylan Miller; and eight great grandchildren, Destiny Ray Clair, Riley Jaden Clair, Mason Sawyer Clair, Susanna Grace Clair, Jaxon Richard Clair, Charles Braden Clair, Harley Marie Miller, and Nova Lee Miller.

    She was born May 29, 1969 in Madison County and was the daughter of Linda Mae Isaacs Gordon and the late Carl White. She attended the Holiness Church and had lived in Estill County most of her life.
    Mrs. Dennis was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Dennis.
    She is survived by her mother, Linda Mae Isaacs Gordon; and two nieces, Michelle and Ashley Keith.
    Mrs. Dennis was also preceded in death by her brother, Paul Ray White.

    Charles Merion Tipton, age 91, of Raintree Court in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at the Berea Health & Rehabilitation Center following a long illness.
    He was born February 16, 1930 in Estill County and was the son of the late Ben and Letha Sparks Tipton. He was a retired heavy equipment operator and had lived in Estill County most of his life.
    Mr. Tipton was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalee Bailey Tipton.
    He is survived by two sons: Charles Lee Tipton, Richmond; and Kevin Drew Tipton, Tennessee; three grandchildren: Charles Tipton III, Crystal Dean and James Tipton; one great grandchild, Sebastian Dean; and several nieces and nephews.
    Mr. Tipton was also preceded in death by his sister, Minnie Chester; and his brothers, Cecil, Clifford and Clyde Tipton.
    Visitation for the public will be held Friday, May 28, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Moberly-Crawford Cemetery.

    Jeffery Alan "Jeff" Bailey, age 51, of River Drive in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at his home.
    He was born December 1, 1969 in Richmond, Indiana and was the son of Sue Gabbard Bailey and the late James Alton Bailey. He was a cabinet maker and had lived in Estill County for the past 25 years.
    Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his son, Bryan Bailey, Indiana; and two sisters: Carrie Sue Morris, Wolfe County; and Brenda Faye Noe, Florence.
    He was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Jonathan Bailey.
    Memorial services will be held at a later date.

    Donna Gross Hurley, age 74, of Irvine, Kentucky, left this life on Sunday, May 16, 2021.
    Born in Estill county on April 30, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Otto Gross and Zetta Lamb. She was a homemaker and spent many years working at the River Restaurant.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Russell Hurley; one brother, Ronnie Gross; three brother-in-law, Bradley, Dale and Matthew Hurley; sisters-in-law, Karen Johnson and Drucilla Gross; and a nephew, Carlo Gross.
    She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Callahan (Wayne); three grandsons, Christopher West, Christian and Josh Callahan; one brother, Gary Gross; three sisters, Phyllis( Durbin Billy), Sue Newton (Ron) and Janet Smith (Beck); one brother-in-law, Mitchell Hurley; several nieces and nephews; three step-sisters, Doris Rawlings, Judy Riddell and Vicky Free; and two very special people, Ellar Burns and Calvin Conrad, that were God-sent family, not by blood but by heart.
    Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Lewis-Abner Funeral Home. Visitation was held 6:00-9:00 p.m., Wednesday May 19, 2021 at the funeral home.     Carolyn Sue Miller, age 80, widow of James Monroe Miller of Clay City, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at her residence.
    Born August 8, 1940 in Winchester, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Owen Powell and Hazel Todd Powell.
    In addition to her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby and Charlie Powell; and two sisters, Dorothy Moore and Evelyn Snowden.
    She is survived by three sons: Donald Miller (Donna), James Owen Miller (Angela) and Mark Douglas Miller; one daughter, Lisa Gay Faulkner (Jerry); and one brother, Walter Powell (Judy), all of Clay City; four sisters: Betty Centers of Florida, Shelby Osborne of Irvine, Carla Brake and Ethel Watkins (Bill) of Ohio; eight grandchildren: Josh Faulkner, Aaron Faulkner, Chris Faulkner, Jerry Faulkner, James Miller Jr., Zack Miller, Nicky Miller and Mark Douglas Miller; along with several great grandchildren.

    As of Friday, May 21, 2021, the bright and spirited light of Sandra Jones Rose dimmed to go be with God and our beloved Joshua.
    Memorial services for Sandra Rose were held Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at 12 Noon at her church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at in Richmond. Visitation preceded the service.
