Jennifer Lynn Gray

    Jennifer Lynn Gray, age 41, of Mountain Crest in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, January 15, 2022, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
    She was born May 30, 1980 in Estill County and was the daughter of Stella Frances Pendergest Gray and Lonnie Allen Gray. She had lived in Estill County all her life.
    Survivors in addition to her mother and father include two daughters: Kaitlyn Boyd and Jocelynn Bennett, both of Powell County; and one son, Mason Gray of Estill County.
    She was preceded in death by her sister, Tina Marie Gray.
    Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 20, 2022, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jerry Rose officiating. Burial will be at the Marcum Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

    Linda Kaye Sparks, age 54, of Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, January 15, 2022 at the Madison Health and Rehab in Richmond.
    She was born in Bluffton, Indiana, March 22, 1967 to Larry and Carol Hamm. She was a homemaker and was of the Pentecostal / Holiness faith.
    Linda is survived by her mother, Geneva Carol Hamm; her husband, Rodney Delbert Sparks; a son, Lester Eli Sparks; one grandchild; a brother, Larry Hamm; and a sister, Clara Collins.
    She was preceded in death by her father, Larry Hamm; and a daughter, Karley Beth Sparks.
    Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at the Grayson Funeral Home in Irvine with Bro. Sidney Sparks Jr. officiating. Friends may visit Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. till time of the service at 12:00 Noon. Burial will be in the Walton Cemetery in Irvine.

Malvin Eugene Rogers

    Malvin Eugene Rogers, age 91, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, January 14, 2022 at Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, Kentucky.
    He was born September 3, 1930 in Glasgow, Kentucky. He retired from Kentucky Utilities. He was an active Deacon at Friendship Baptist Church in Irvine for nearly 50 years.
    Preceding him in death was his wife of 47 years, Vernalene Bowles Rogers; a daughter, Tanya Kim Rogers Richardson; and parents, Merritt Ivan and Nellie Mae Pace Rogers. He is also predeceased by three sisters and three brothers: Mable Delphine Rogers Livesay, Opal Olene Rogers Riley, Barbara Nell Rogers Fisher, Leonard Merritt Rogers, J.C. Mitchell Rogers, and Ewing Palmore Rogers.
    Survivors include two sons: Michael A. Rogers (Demetria) and Dwight E. Rogers (Sherry); a son-in-law, Wade Richardson; eight grandchildren: Nicole Caudill, Matthew Rogers (Lori), Luke Rogers, Justin Rogers, Amanda Melton (Danny), Shawn Richardson (Leanna), Jeremy Richardson (Elizabeth), and Ryan Richardson (Morgan); and 18 great grandchildren: Noah, Isaac, Elijah and Timothy Rogers; Olivia Caudill, Shawn Hampton; Tanya, Kimberly and Brooklynn Richardson; Emelyn and Jaxson Melton; Lyrica Rogers; Abbigail, Nathaniel and Zachery Richardson; Callie and Banner Rogers; and Shane Richardson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
    Malvin was ordained a Deacon at Calvary Baptist Church in Glasgow, Kentucky in 1961. He continued to serve in many roles in the numerous churches he held membership in as he moved with his job to different communities. He worked diligently for his Lord and Savior JESUS Christ.
    Malvin’s final KU transfer was to Irvine, in 1972, and he was always willing to contribute his time to this community that he loved so much. He served on the Irvine City Council, was a Commissioner on Irvine Housing Authority Board, and was a tireless member of the Irvine Mountain Mushroom Festival Committee. He loved the Mountain Mushroom Festival and always made sure the vendors had everything they needed. He also supported the Irvine Fire Department and Rescue Squad in their service to his community. He was an avid supporter of Aldersgate Methodist Camp in Ravenna. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
    Visitation will be at Toler Funeral Home in Irvine, on Friday, January 21, 2022, 6-9 p.m. Visitation will be held at Friendship Baptist Church on Saturday, January 22nd from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 Noon, followed by the funeral conducted by Bro. Scott Rogers at 12:00 Noon. Graveside service and interment will follow at West Irvine Cemetery.
    In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you place Bibles through The Gideons International, PO Box 327, Irvine, KY 40336-0327 in honor and memory of Malvin.

Gregory Allen Henry

    Gregory Allen Henry, age 69, of Dry Branch Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, January 13, 2022, at the St. Joseph East Hospital in Lexington, following a long illness.
    He was born May 13, 1952 in Estill County and was the son of the late Marvin Allen and Della Mae Puckett Henry. He was retired from the Corps of Engineers and had lived in Estill County all his life.
    Mr. Henry is survived by his companion, Deborah Henry; one stepdaughter, Becky Woolery of Estill County; one sister, Debbie Walling (Jack), Estill County; one brother, Jeff Henry (Delia), Estill County; and one grandchild, Dalton Shanken (Kristin).
    He was preceded in death by his first wife, Debra Sue Morgan Henry; his son, Marvin Edgar Steven Henry; and three siblings, Judy Ann Noe, Michael Lynn Henry and Timothy Joe Henry.
    Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, January 18, 2022, 11:00 a.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mickey Hardy officiating. Burial will be at the Puckett Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, January 17th from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

    Billy Harold Freeman, age 89, of Drowning Creek Ridge in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
    He was born November 9, 1932 in Bourbon County and was the son of the late Oscar and Nannie Alf Hall Freeman. He was a retired farmer and brick layer and attended the Bethel Christian Church. He had lived in Estill County most of his life and is survived by his wife of 57 years, Phyllis Ann Tevis Freeman; one daughter, Shelia Ann Freeman of Estill County; one son, Billy Earl Freeman of Estill County; one sister, Eva Rose of Estill County; and several nieces and nephews.
    Mr. Freeman was preceded in death by one sister, Alice Craycraft; three brothers, Delbert Freeman, Wayne Freeman, and Dave Freeman, Sr.; and his nephew, Billy Wayne Craycraft.
    Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 14, 2022, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ronald Lutes officiating. Burial will be at the Turpin Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

Wavalene Sparks McIntosh

    Wavalene Sparks McIntosh, daughter of the late Elera Sparks and Edith Hatton Ashcraft was born on April 12, 1945 in Estill County, Kentucky and departed this life in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, January 11, 2022.
    She is survived by her two sons, Jeffrey (Joy) of Wellsville, Ohio; and James (Joell) of Brownsville, Pennsylvania; six grandchildren, Francesca, Brenton, Sondra, Brittney, Jamie, and Jarin; two great grandchildren, Vincent and Flynn James; four sisters, Wanda Rodgers, Wilma Jean Spencer, Linda McIntosh, and Debra Hensley; and two brothers, Randall and Donald Sparks.
    Wavalene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years, Wesley Paul McIntosh; two sisters, Elaine McIntosh and Alma Tipton; and three brothers, Edward, Billy, and Ronald Sparks.
    Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at Newnam Funeral Home, 108 Center Street in Beattyvlle, Kentucky. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 20th at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Rock of Ages Cemetery in Beattyville.

    She was born October 20, 1949 to the late Woodrow Frazier and Katherine Frazier.
    Survivors include her mother, Katherine Frazier; husband, R Lee Neal; daughters, Kimberly Parks (Russell) and Karron Carter (Frank); son, Kevin Neal (Arlene); brother, Phillip "Denny" Frazier (Vivian); grandchildren, John Parks, Julia Parks, Neeli Beth Neal, Kenna Neal, Kaelyn Neal, Tylar Carter, Rylee Carter, and Dylan Carter.

    Sue Inez Perry, age 66, passed away Monday, January 10, 2022.
    She was born May 25, 1955 to Rodney and Eula Jones Coomer in Irvine, Kentucky. She was a member of the Baptist faith; loved to fish and do craft work. Above all, she loved her family. She was a sweet soul that tried to help everyone she could.
    Sue is survived by her daughter, Tara Brinegar (Matt), three sons: Brandon Moore (Christy), Brian Moore and Tyler Moore; grandchildren, Lauren and Tucker Brinegar, and Caleb and Waylon Moore; her sisters: Mary Morguson and Linda Bingham; a brother, Rodney Coomer, Jr.; and several nieces and nephews.
    Her service will be Friday, January 14, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Rolan G. Taylor Funeral Home, 289 South Main Street, Winchester. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. till the hour of service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be in in Clarmont Memorial Gardens.
    Pallbearers will be Brian, Brandon and Tyler Moore; Matt and Tucker Brineger; and Clifford Hensley.

Paul Everman “Hammer” Abbott

    Paul Everman “Hammer” Abbott, age 83, widower of Jewell Faye Rose Abbott, passed away Saturday, January 8, 2022 at his residence.
    Born in Pilot View, Kentucky, he was the son of the late James William Abbott and the late Dora Everman Abbott, and he was a welder with Union American. He attended West Bend First Church of God and was a member of Powell County Livestock Producers. Hammer loved to ride horses with his friends and attend gospel music events.
    In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, James “Pete” Abbott; and his sister, Florence “Pepper” Pasley.
    He is survived by his daughter, Paula Watson (David) of Clay City; three grandchildren, Allison Clowers (Kyle), Emily Watson and Ben Watson; and one great grandchild, Kyndall Madison Clowers.
    Funeral services officiated by Bro. James Harold Combs will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, Kentucky. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 11th at the funeral home. Burial will be in West Bend Cemetery with Bruce Abbott, Don Pasley, Ben Pasley, Caleb Fraley, Jeffrey Wayne Curtis, David Watson, Ben Watson and Kyle Clowers serving as active pallbearers.

    Joel Stevenson, age 97, of Winston Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, January 8, 2022, at his home following a long illness.
     He was born January 29, 1924 in Madison County and was the son of the late James Stevenson Sr. and Eliza McGlothlin Stevenson. He was a United States Army veteran and served during World War II with the 101st Airborne Division. He was retired from Westinghouse and from farming and was a member of the Providence Baptist Church. He had lived in Estill County all his life.
     Mr. Stevenson was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Lois Richardson Stevenson.
     He is survived by his daughter, Charae Thomas (Edward) of Tennessee; his son, Paul Stevenson of Estill County; one brother, Thomas Wayne Stevenson of Estill County; three grandchildren: Chandra Bicknell (Jay), Paige Tipton (Mike), and Nicole Toner (Justin); six great grandchildren: Bailey Cochran (Korey), Jake Bicknell, Josh Bicknell, Brinley Bicknell, Beth Bicknell, Joel Bicknell, Carly Tipton, Gavin Tipton, Nadia Toner, Isaiah Toner and David Toner; and his dog, Betty.
     In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Agnes Pearson and Zula Ball; and two brothers, James Stevenson Jr. and Daniel Stevenson.
     Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, January 12, 2022, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Keith Weldon officiating. Visitation was held Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

    Roger L. Muncie, age 71, husband of Wanda Embs Muncie, passed away, Sunday, January 9, 2022, at Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchester, Kentucky.
    He was born on January 27, 1950 in Estill County to the late Lewis and Dessi Lee Witt Muncie. He was a retired maintenance supervisor and field engineer from L-3 Company. He was a member of the Pharis Hill Christian Church.
    In addition to his loving wife of 50 years, he is survived by a son, Thomas Sparks (Daniella); four grandchildren, Bridgette Sparks, Justin Sparks, Alara Sparks, and Kimberly Sparks; two sisters, Lucy Fredrick and Mayetta Stone; a brother, Brinston Muncie (Judy), and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis Edward Muncie.
    No services are planned.

    Melissa Ann Puckett, age 40, of Irvine, Kentukcy, departed this life on Thursday, January 6, 2022, at her home.
    She was born on November 30, 1981 at Irvine to the late Donald Sheeks Sr. and Judy Cockrell Sheeks. She was of the Baptist faith.
     In addition to her father, Melissa was preceded in death by a brother, Donald "Dinky" Sheeks Jr.; her paternal grandparents, James and Marilyn Marnhout Sheeks; and her maternal grandparents, Jack and Louise Cockrell.
    In addition to her mother, Melissa is survived by two daughters, Makayla Sheeks and Madison Puckett; a special cousin, Malachi Begley; and the father of her children, Jamie Puckett.
    Funeral services for Melissa Ann Puckett will be conducted on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at 1:00 p.m., in the chapel of the Lewis Home for Funerals with Brother Marvin Neal officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The family has chosen cremation services after the funeral.

    Phyllis Jean Scott, age 78, wife of Henry Scott, passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at her home.
    She was born May 28, 1943 in Lexington to the late Amos and Josephine Adams Campbell. Phyllis was a member of the Walnut Grove Church of God.
    Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Henry Scott; a son, Rocky Scott (Leslie); three daughters, Robin Kincaid (Tony), Rhonda Snapp (Robert), and Roxanne Coldiron (Lonnie); grandchildren, Jessica Martin (Clevie Rowe), Randy Martin (Lori), Zach Hall (Mercedes), Chelsea Hall (Justin Knoblett), Tonya Young (Aaron), Brian Scott, Brianna Hunt (John), and Dalen Coldiron; a sister, Nancy McCoy; and nine great grandchildren.

    Michael Lynn Smyth, age 74, of Richmond, Kentucky, the husband of Jane Richardson Smyth, passed away Friday, December 31, 2021.
    He was born in Madison County on March 2, 1947 and was the son of the late Russell and Ruby Roberts Smyth of Irvine. He was the Owner, Broker and Auctioneer of Keyway Realty and Auction, Inc. He was retired from International Business Machines, former Bus Driver with Madison County Schools, former Agent with Parsons Insurance Agency, and a retired Major from the United States Army. He was the former Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 254 where he enjoyed seeing young men succeed in life. Michael was a member of the Big Hill Christian Church and a former Deacon, Trustee and Treasurer of Westside Christian Church.
    Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Jane Richardson Smyth; a daughter, Jennifer Robinson (Barry) of Lexington; a son, Alan Smyth of Richmond; a brother, William Smyth (Brenda) of Monroe, Ohio; six grandchildren, Dylan Smyth of Lexington, Zachary Dickerson of Richmond, Brooklyn Smyth of Bloomington, Illinois, Katelyn Smyth of Berea, Jadelyn Smyth and Trey Smyth, both of Richmond; four great grandchildren, Oliver Baudendistel, Sylas Adams, Asher Short, and Willow Bee Schlosser.
    Funeral Services were conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Bro. John McCord and Bro. Jim Riggs officiating. Burial followed in Madison Memorial Gardens. Visitation was from 5–8 p.m., Tuesday, January 4th at the funeral home.

    Edward Lee Hudson, Jr., age 81, formerly of Evansville, Indiana, passed away at his home in Irvine, Kentucky, on Saturday, December 25, 2021.
    He was born in Huntingburg, Dubois, Indiana, on December 17, 1940 to Edward L. and Mildred Ogden Hudson. He served in the United States Marine Corps. Ed worked previously for Sears, Kuester's Hardware, Red Spot & Bethel Manor, before becoming a handyman. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
    Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Edward L. and Mildred Ogden Hudson; a sister, Sharon Louise Hudson; and his wife, Rita Joyce Hudson.
    He is survived by a son, Bob Hudson of Fishers, Indiana; a daughter, Jennifer S. Nance (Kraig) of Evansville, Indiana; two brothers, Terry (Janet) and Tim (Linda); three grandchildren, Hunter Nance (Simone), Chase Nance, and Stetson Nance; a great granddaughter, Layla; and several nieces and nephews.
    A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors or any Veterans Association.
