Mary Ruth Thomas, 80

Mary Ruth Thomas, age 80, of Traylor Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at the Marcum and Wallace Memorial Hospital, following a long illness.
She was born January 2, 1945, in Harlan County and was the daughter of the late Rosco Craig and Lola Mae Elliott Craig. She retired from the Riverview Hotel where she had worked as a Housekeeper. She attended the Rice Station Christian Church, and she had lived in Estill County for most of her life.
Mary Ruth is survived by two daughters, Linda and Marsha Maggard, both of Irvine; two sons, James Thomas (Connie) of Fordsville, Kentucky, and Bobby Thomas (Jessica) of Lawrence, Kansas; three sisters, Linda Cook (Jerry), Debbie Craig, both of Louisville; and Cindy Craig of Lexington; five grandchildren, Mary Maggard, Bradley Maggard, Emilee Maggard, Shelby Thomas, and Dillon Thomas; and two great grandchildren, Lyndon Hardy and Lennox Hardy.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Brenda Craig, Anna Winburn, and Carolyn Smithson; and one brother, Leon Craig.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 14, 2025, 1 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jerry Cook officiating. Burial will be at the West Irvine Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m.
Elinor Wise Murphy, 83

Elinor Wise Murphy, age 83, of Smyth Lane in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Monday, March 10, 2025, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
She was born May 2, 1941, in Estill County and was the daughter of the late George and Bessie Neal Wise. She retired from Sylvania where she had worked for 32 years. She was a member of the Mt. Carmel Christian Church and a former member of the Eastern Star. She loved reading her Bible and word search puzzles. Her most favorite place to go on Friday nights was Cracker Barrel.
Mrs. Murphy was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Elbie “Mudduck” Murphy, Jr. and is survived by two daughters, Tammy Griffin (Ray) and Teresa Horn (Travis), both of Estill County; one sister, Eldora Adams of Estill County; three grandchildren, Ashley Riddell (Philip), Kylea Rose (Micah), and Jared Kiser; seven great grandchildren, Kennedy, Cade, Cole, Korbin, Everly, Jude, and Acacia.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Nellie Bea Wise and Elizabeth Ann Wise; and five brothers, Terry David Wise, Herschel Wayne Wise, Eddie Wise, Bill Wise, and Wilbur Wise.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, March 13, 2025, 1 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mark Pearson officiating. Burial was at the Tipton Cemetery. Visitation was held on Wednesday, March 12th from 6 to 9 p.m.
Pallbearers were Ray Griffin, Travis Horn, Philip Riddell, Jared Kiser, Cade Riddell, Cole Riddell, and Micah Rose.
Honorary pallbearers were Carlo Noland, Michael Griffin, Elmer Griffin, and Robert Griffin.
Nancy Lee Griffin Wells, 85

Nancy Lee Griffin Wells, age 85, of Lexington, Kentucky, formerly of Irvine, departed this life on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at the Sayre Christian Village Nursing facility in Lexington.
Nancy was born on April 21,1939 in Irvine to the late Cecil William Griffin Sr. and Norma Brandenburg Griffin.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Irvine.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Griffin Willis; and her brother, Cecil Griffin.
Survivors include two daughters, Celena Wells Baker (Larry) and Kimberly Wells Cordier (Jon); two sons, James Phillip Wells (Bella) and Charles Thomas "Chuck" Wells; six grandchildren, Jennafer, Lindsey, Lauren, Ashlynne, Christopher, and Stephanie Ward; eight great grandchildren, Katie, Piper, Doc, Evie, Townes, Gillian, Maxlee, and Beez; and a very close friend, Thelma Warren; along with numerous other family and friends to miss her and mourn her passing.
Graveside services for Nancy Lee Wells will be conducted on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Oakdale Cemetery with Brother Jerry Rose Officiating. At 10:30 a.m., family and friends will meet at Lewis Home for Funerals. Procession to graveside will leave at 10:45 a.m.
Pallbearers will be Chuck Wells – son, Phil Wells - son. Larry Baker - son-in-law, Christopher Williams – grandson, and Richard Hackworth – grandson.

Elizabeth Fike, age 73, passed away Monday, March 10, 2025, at the Irvine, Kentucky, Nursing and Rehab Center.
She was born in Irvine on February 27, 1952, to Ernest and Rosie Fike. She was retired from the Sylvania Factory.
Elizabeth is survived by her partner, Billy Kelly; a son, Isaac Neal; two daughters, Tina Young and Melissa Huerta; six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; and two sisters, Christene Smyth and Ruth Thacker.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Price Fike; two sisters, Ruby McMine and Geniva Fike.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, March 14, 2025, at the Grayson Funeral Home in Irvine with Bro. Marvin Neal officiating. Friends may visit on Friday from 5 p.m. till the time of service.
Grace Edna Sheffer, 98

Grace Edna Sheffer, age 98, of Irvine, Kentucky passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at the Compassionate Care Hospice Center in Richmond.
Grace was born on August 18, 1926, in Lola, Kentucky to the late Howard Otto Black and Mollie Belt Black.
She was a member of the First Christian Church on Main Street in Irvine, Kentucky.
Along with her parents, Grace is preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Sheffer; a sister, Margaret Curnel; two brothers, Quentin Black and Charles Black; a son-in-law, Abraham Lewis; and a grandson, Rodney Barnes.
Grace is survived by a daughter, Judy Lewis; a son, Robert Walker (Barbara); grandchildren, Melissa Barnes, Chris Lewis (Lorri), and Jennifer Lawson (Derek); great grandchildren, Erin Brooks (Matthew), Cierra Robertson (Quintin), Molly Holmberg (Henry), Jack Lewis, Megan Weldy and Rachel Weldy; great, great grandchildren, Emilia Brooks, Preston and Evelyn Robertson; and a brother, Mike Black (Mary Nell); along with many other family and friends to miss and mourn her passing.
A graveside service for Grace Edna Sheffer will be conducted on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 3 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Brother Matt Higle will be officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be Matthew Brooks, Quintin Robertson, Rodney Barnes, Sr., John Duvall, Chris Lewis and Joedy Ohr.

James Edward "Eddie" Sparks, 55

James Edward "Eddie" Sparks of Stanton, Kentucky, departed this life Monday, March 10, 2025 at the age of 55 years, 7 months and 17 days. He was a son of Judy Faye Hollon Taulbee and the late Edward Clay Sparks, born in Irvine, Kentucky, on July 21, 1969.
James was a retired United States Army Veteran. He was also a loving father, grandfather, son, brother, and nephew.
He is survived by one son, James Devin Sparks (Rebekah) of Lexington; one daughter, Kayla Andrea Goodwin (Earnest Jay) of Stanton; one grandchild, Marleigh June Goodwin; his mother, Judy Faye Hollon Taulbee of Campton; one brother, Darren Clay Sparks (Brooke) of Campton; Tammy Hatfield and Imogene Koutoulas; and one special uncle, Estill Roberts.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Clay Sparks; his step-father, Arnold Taulbee; and one brother, Harold Tracy Sparks.
He also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Visitation will be held Sunday, March 16, 2025, beginning at 12 Noon at Porter and Son Funeral Directors, 769 East Main Street, Campton. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 2 p.m. at Porter and Son's Chapel with Pastor George Sparks officiating. Burial will be in the Sparks Family Cemetery, Stanton.
Serving as pallbearers are Devin Sparks, Darren Sparks, E.J. Goodwin, Corey Roberts, Avery Roberts and Zane Sparks.

Brenda Kendrick Crim, age 78, widow of David Crim departed this life on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at the Windsor Care Center in Mount Sterling, Kentucky.
Brenda was born September 2, 1946 in Oneida, Kentucky, to the late Dale and Ethyl Sparks Kendrick. She was a retired clerical worker for Clark Energy in Winchester. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who enjoyed her family. She was a faithful member of the Turning Point Apostolic Church in Clay City.
She is survived by one son, Jeffrey Crim of Clay City; one daughter, Jennifer Crim Fraley (Bill) of Clay City; onr sister, Phyllis Jane Knapp of Columbia, South Carolina; two brothers, Tommy Kendrick of Beattyville and Danny Kendrick of Morehead; one grandchild, Kaitlin Fraley Todd; bonus grandchildren, Brittney Fletcher (Derrick) and Ashley Hood, (BJ); great grandchildren, Colton Todd and Tiana Todd; and bonus great grandchildren, Melanie, Billy and Jada Hood, Jerrick and Jerrika Fletcher; along with many other loving family members and friends.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and 1 sister; Judy Mullins.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 14, 2025 from 5-9 p.m. at the Booneville Funeral Home, 3450 KY Hwy 11 North,
Booneville. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 15th at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Brothers Eugene McIntosh, Tim Stidham and George Stidham officiating. Brenda will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, located in the Pebworth community of Owsley County.
Pallbearers will be Bill Fraley, Tommy Kendrick, Jeff Crim, David Fraley, Wendell Fraley, Joe Tincher, George Stidham and Tim Stidham.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Rachel Harper, the congregation of Turning Point Apostolic Church, the staffs Windsor Care Center and Hospice of St. Claire.
